A Message From Our Founder

Jose Hernandez, for over a decade, has been involved in alcohol and addiction recovery helping people succeed in overcoming substance abuse and regaining control of their lives. He has experience in all aspects of the recovery world, from facilitating entry into treatment as an intervention specialist to counseling and case management at rehabilitation facilities. Jose has worked one-on-one with individuals as a sober companion and with groups as a resident counselor at addiction treatment centers and is certified by the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) to practice as a substance abuse counselor.

Through his professional experiences in crisis intervention, drug and alcohol detoxification, substance abuse counseling, and relapse prevention, Jose has developed a unique plan for case management that bridges the gap between a person’s painful past of substance abuse and a future of sobriety.

At Riviera Recovery, a sober living facility with multiple locations, clients continue their transition from the supportive environment of a treatment center to living well and happily in the “real” world. The program he designed at Riviera Recovery personalizes treatment plans that enable clients, including those with a single or dual diagnosed mental health disorder, to embrace a satisfying life.

His greatest endeavor has been establishing LAUNCH, a Los Angeles-based life skills intensive outpatient program for young adults. LAUNCH works with recovering men and women to establish personal vocational and educational goals and develop the tools to successfully meet them. His mission is to ensure that no one stands alone in his or her recovery.

I was a client at Riviera and so enjoyed my experience living there. The biggest thing that stuck out to me was how much the staff genuinely cared and how hard they ALL work to help. The owners, Kate and Jose, spent time helping me with a resume, making sure I was okay, helping my family during a tough situation, and personally reaching out to people to increase my support network.

I have referred a few clients and one in particular. They did a stellar job in addressing his addiction and medication regimen and applied life skills, love and support. He is having success and working! For all male dual diagnosis I always think of this program!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is mental health housing?

Mental health housing is a transitional program that helps ease people into their journeys toward wellness and mental health recovery. At our mental health homes, clients will be taught invaluable skills that will drastically increase the chances of maintaining a fulfilling life. It is less rigid in structure than residential treatment. Clients will be randomly drug tested and checked in each night and transportation to and from 12-step meetings will be provided.

  • Will food be provided at Riviera Recovery mental health housing?
Yes. Clients will receive a food card each week to help them learn shopping and budgeting skills. Our staff works with each client to help them meal plan and work on creating a healthy, nutritious shopping list.
  • What is the recommended length of stay?
Each person is unique, so it is best to consult a member of the staff. The minimum recommended stay is 90 days, however, clients can decide whether or not to continue their residency at the end of each month. We traditionally see the best outcomes between 6 months and 1 year of stay.
  • How do your recovery mentors help?

Our recovery mentors help with basic case management. Case management is a hands-on program. Our team will make sure the client is attending meetings and meeting with their sponsor regularly (if that is a part of their treatment plan), actively participating in-house activities, and attending all doctor/ therapy appointments. They will also supervise client taking medication, provide additional transportation if necessary, and keep an open line of communication with the client’s treatment team, which may include therapists, doctors, outpatient team, etc. Additionally, they work with each client to make sure they are working out, getting proper nutrition, and are working towards gainful employment or continued education.

If your client/loved one requires more intensive monitoring or case management, we can also provide increased, one on one support for an additional fee.

  • Are clients able to visit Riviera Recovery after they move out?
Absolutely! We have an open door policy for all of our clients. We encourage them to come back and visit any time, continue to participate in group activities, and attend our weekly in-house meeting.
